Doug
McKinney
Dr. Doug McKinney is Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party, having been elected in the summer of 2006 to a four-year term. 
Doug was born in Bud, West Virginia, on March 17, 1943, the son of Dewey and Violet (Church) McKinney. His father was a barber, gospel musician and longtime Republican county chairman in Wyoming County, and his mother was a housewife.
Growing up with three younger sisters, Doug attended Itmann grade school and was valedictorian of Mullens High School, class of 1960, where he played baseball, basketball and football. He attended West Virginia University, where he made the basketball team as a freshman walk-on and had a scholarship to play baseball. He graduated from the WVU Medical School in 1967.
Doug served in the U.S. Navy from 1967-76, including one year of submarine duty and four years of residency in urological surgery. From 1978-86, he operated a practice in Ashland, Ky., then practiced in Bridgeport-Clarksburg until 2004. Doug has also served as President of the County Medical Society in WV and KY, and Kings Daughters Medical Staff, President of the County Medical Society, President of WVU Med School Alumni Association, President of WV State Medical Association, Chairman of WESPAC, Board of Directors for the American Association of Clinical Urologists, Board of UROPAC, and the Board of Directors and President of the Mid-Atlantic Section of American Urological Association. He is Chief of Urology at Clarksburg VAMC.
In addition to practicing medicine, Doug established and coached high school soccer in KY and at Bridgeport High School.  He also served as administrator of the state youth soccer program and was a certified soccer referee.
Since becoming Chairman of the WVGOP, Doug led the effort to retire the party’s debt and is building the party for the election challenges ahead.
Doug and his wife, Sue, have four children and eight grandchildren.
